Position Summary: The Behavioral Health (BH) Provider is responsible for coordinating the provision of behavioral health services, including substance use disorder within migrant and seasonal farmworker (MSFWs) communities. The BH Provider is responsible for ensuring that MMHP patients have full access to integrated BH and SUD services.

What you will be doing:

• Assist the BH Director in implementing MMHP’s BH program, ensuring its patients have full access to culturally and linguistically appropriate behavioral health services.
• Provide BH services through in-person and telehealth sessions.
• Maintain presence at mobile clinics where appropriate.
• Provide integrated care, including consulting and referring within clinical teams, as well as providing screenings, brief interventions and psychotherapy.
• Act as a training resource to providers, staff, and community health workers.
• Assist BH Director with the planning, managing, and execution of the SUD prevention and treatment program for MMHP patients.

Work Location:

• The BH provider will take referrals statewide, and a designated region and office location will be determined with the applicant upon hire.

What we will need from you:

• Must have a mental health degree (i.e. LCSW, LCPC, LSMC-cc, MSW–cc). Supervision provided.
• Bilingual Spanish/English with proficiency speaking and writing in both languages.
• Current driver’s license, with good driving record. Reliable transportation and insurance also required.
• Working knowledge of social work principles and practices, staying abreast of best practices and emerging treatment modalities.
• Knowledgeable in the use of diagnostic tools and techniques, including the most current DSM in use.
• Ability to work in cross-cultural settings both independently and in team settings.
• Daytime, and some evening and weekend hours during the harvest season
• Ability to provide services in varied geography
• COVID-19 vaccination

The Community Health Worker: Core roles include conducting health/needs assessments, navigation, care coordination, interpretation, serving as a cultural broker, providing advocacy and health education.

The Maine Mobile Health Program seeks individuals with bilingual skills in English/Haitian Creole OR English/Spanish for a unique outreach position during the harvest season (July – December). This Community Health Worker (CHW) position will facilitate access to care and services for Maine’s migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families. A CHW is a respected member of their community who acts as a bridge between medical providers and individuals to promote health, reduce health disparities, and improve access to care as well as to advocate for individual and community needs. MMHP is Maine’s only farmworker health program and provides mobile clinics to farmworkers across the state to reduce their barriers to accessing medical care. Promoting health equity and racial equity are foundations to MMHP’s mission to “improve the health status of Maine’s seasonal workers and their families by providing culturally appropriate care and services.” If you are interested in working in a dynamic and diverse healthcare environment, we want to hear from you!

The CHW will provide registration, intake and interpretation services to farmworkers in Downeast Maine with a focus on supporting the Spanish-speaking and Haitian Creole-speaking migrant workers in the region.

• Care coordination to assist with understanding the health care system in Maine (including transporting patients and interpreting for them in a clinical setting)
• Interpretation on behalf of patients and clinicians during evening and weekend clinics

Ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills, be able to empathize with patients, and have a commitment to supporting seasonal farmworkers in Maine with their access to health care. Preferably, this individual should have an understanding of the farmworker community either because of prior work, relationship in/to the community and/or other life experience such as shared language or culture. The candidate should be and be comfortable working in mobile settings and with a flexible schedule. This position will be 20-40 hours per week role for a minimum of 6 weeks, with the possibility of extending for up to 5 months. It includes an evening schedule and some weekend or daytime hours. If you are interested, schedules are negotiable. Reliable transportation/clean driving record, basic computer skills and an ability to speak, read and write in Spanish or Haitian Creole at an advanced level are a must. Housing is provided for the duration of employment in the harvest area.
